Fish - rectangular

Fish - rectangular, Czech Krumlov Original

The fish was a traditional symbol of Christianity and fast food, so ponds were founded in the monasteries from the Middle Ages. Eating fish for Christmas holidays has been documented in the Czech lands since the 17th century, but the common people have not kept this custom very much. The oldest mention of carp on Christmas dates back to 1253 when Flemish monk Vilém of Rubruk ate at the court of the Mongolian khan Möngke, whose wife was a Nestorian Christian.
